The Betty Hise Legacy

Betty Hise (1916-1987) was the wife of the Elks Past Grand Exalted Ruler Frank Hise. Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer, and  endured several major surgeries during the last 15 years of her life, but she sadly lost her fight in 1987.

Because cancer affects so many people of all ages, Pat Bybee, her friend from  Idaho, wanted to establish a fund for   cancer research in Betty’s  honor. Unfortunately, Pat passed away before the fund could be established so the Oregon and Idaho ladies of Elks continued the effort, and the Betty Hise for Cancer  Research Non-Profit Organization was established.

Funds collected are placed in an interest bearing  trust from which annual distributions are used to fund cancer  research projects at the Knight Cancer Institute in Oregon and the St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute in Idaho.

The organization’s Board of Directors is made up solely of volunteers, therefore less than 5% of income is used for administration costs which ensures that each entity receives the maximum distribution  possible each year to fund cancer related projects for all types of cancer.
